SLC RESIDENCES & HOTEL A Mixed-Use Residential Development situated on the southwest corner of Sunset and La Cienega boulevards, this mixed-use, multi-unit residential redevelopment reactivates the heart of the iconic Sunset Strip. A design collaboration between Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP and Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects, the 2-acre scheme consists of two 8-story towers with 190 units rising above a 30,000-square-foot retail podium. Framed between the two buildings, a pedestrian plaza seamlessly links the Sunset Boulevard retail frontage to sweeping views of the Los Angeles Basin.
HOTEL DEVELOPMENT This new 388,000-square-foot, 296-key hotel parcel designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, is located on the southeast corner of Sunset Boulevard and La Cienega Boulevard, in the heart of Los Angeles’ iconic Sunset Strip. The two-tower complex features two restaurants, private rooftop lounge, lobby bar, 10,000-square-feet of meeting space, street-level retail store fronts, and an underground parking facility.
The design seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor spaces to create a welcoming, interactive environment for hotel guests and the public alike. It includes a landscaped plaza with sweeping views of the Los Angeles basin, a selection of up-scale shopping, and a public art installation by Janet Echelman titled “The Dream Catcher.” SOM collaborated with Echelman to create the 65-foot-tall net sculpture, which is held in tension and suspended approximately 100 feet between the hotel’s two towers. Inspired by the allure of the Sunset Strip, the installation celebrates the pursuit of dreams and is a conceptual representation of brainwave activity that occurs during sleep and dreaming.
